Korean skincare is fairly new to the western world, but definitely making a name for itself. On a more personal level, I have seen improvement in my skin since I’ve been following many of their suggestions. To be honest the entire routine is long and might be impossible for many. I myself have faulted and not keep up with the program and fell back into the rubble of blotchy yet oily, acne prone skin, ugh !!! That is to say it’s worth investing your time and effort, making your skin a visible asset.
Understanding Why and How it Works
It’s most note worthy to say that this philosophy has been tweaked and manipulated over centuries to develop positive results. So this brings us to consider why this mechanism works so well for so many. What are the differences in Korean skincare routine to other routines?
- First there is an emphasis on the double cleansing method- Using oils to dislodge excess sebum, dirt, makeup and dead skin is a superior way of gentle cleansing.
- Second followed by a foam cleanser, really giving that deep clean feeling yet keeping normal skin barrier functions in tack.
- Third- Essence is an additional step between toner and serum, served to hydrates deep into the skin. Sheet masks also add a serge of essence – big plus. What do you think?
- Subsequently with these additional steps, this brings us to the systematic layering of products. In my opinion this is the SECRET to Korean skincare routine.
What is layering ?
Layering is the systematic application of products depending on their consistency and texture. It starts with applying clear liquids such as toners and essences. Each step that follows, products increases in thickness, therefore ending with the heaviest cream or moisturizer. Of course that would be for your night time routine, day routine always ends with sunscreen !!!
Another key aspect that relates to the products used for this layering process, is their light weight texture. Let’s take this analogy in mind. There are many single products that would benefit the skin in may ways. So why would I want to use five different products for the same benefit as one? This is where it makes a vast difference. One of my favorite benefits is, if you have 5 different products , you can mix-it up and switch-it up on a daily basis, depending on your skin needs. Other factors such as time and effort also play an important part of designing your personal skincare regiment. Having this flexibility is undeniable A GREAT ASSET !!!! What’s your routine like?
